Grace H. Kim, FAIA (she/her) is a founding principal of Schemata Workshop. She began her architectural career in Chicago before returning home to Seattle.
Grace is an internationally recognized expert in Cohousing. For four years, Grace served on the board of the Cohousing Association of the US. She chaired the National Conference in 2009 and 2019, as well as organizing an International Cohousing Summit in 2009 and 2021. Grace currently serves on their Professional Advisory Council. Grace was invited to give a TED Talk in Vancouver at TED 2017 on the topic of cohousing - and how it can result in longevity of life. This celebrated TED Talk has been viewed by more than 3M people worldwide.
She is also a founding member of Capitol Hill Urban Cohousing, where she lives with husband and teenage child. For eight years Grace served on the Seattle Planning Commission, and was the chairperson for two years. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Housing Development Consortium of Seattle and King County – an advocacy group for the affordable housing industry; where she is actively engaged with the Off-Site Construction Task Force.
Grace is the author of The Survival Guide to Architectural Internship and Career Development, and in 2008, she was recipient of the National AIA Young Architect Award. Grace was elevated to the College of Fellows in 2021.

Grace is a frequent presenter at national conferences on the topics of mentorship, cohousing, modular construction, equitable transit oriented development, community engagement, and alternative housing models for seniors and those with disabilities.
