Lonesome Cove
A place for gathering, rooted in it’s environment

Lonesome Cove is a uniquely beautiful site, sloping from dense forest to shoreline, with substantial gathering and open space for friends and family. Schemata provided site programming and planning services for a quiet retreat with a central commons, along with recommendations for locating the primary residence (already in design with a local builder). In addition to proposing an expansion to existing cabin footprints, and a comprehensive vision for the campus based on client interviews, Schemata developed a site plan based on a hierarchy of circulation and program that would provide residents and visitors with opportunities to experience the site ecology. Pathways meander through the dense woods and provide access to new locations and site features. The design and planning aims to enhance the experience of the Pacific Northwest landscape by repairing the site ecology and introducing more native plantings and landscape, as well as promoting views to the water and Speiden Island.
