Coyote Central Courtyard Visioning
reimaging space with the community
Coyote Central provides creative classes and public art opportunities to young people in the Central District and beyond. With its engagement in the community, Coyote Central reached out to the people that they serve to help them reenvision the courtyard. The Coyote Central team, along with staff, students, and community members gathered three visioning sessions. The sessions gave people a chance to share and interact with display boards to mark their preferences.
Schemata Workshop worked closely with Coyote Central’s Public Art class, taught by Caitlin, providing ongoing feedback and guidance as students conceptualized the courtyard. The team participated in both the mid-review and final review stages of the students’ projects, helping to shape their ideas while ensuring that their visions aligned with the renovation efforts. As designs came together, they played a crucial role in influencing the final courtyard concept. The students’ involvement in the project reinforced the idea that the courtyard would be a space built around the needs and desires of its most frequent users.
