Bellingham Design Guidelines
planning for the future of the blooming pacific northwestern city

Schemata Workshop worked closely with the City of Bellingham to develop new Design Guidelines that will become a Citywide standard for all Urban Villages. The process included neighborhood tours; interviews with historic preservationists, city council members, contractors, and developers; stakeholder workshops with members of the development community and planning staff; and review of Design Guidelines from other jurisdictions.

The deliverables include a new Design Guidelines document; recommendations for process changes and land-use code revisions; and recommendations for a combined Historic Preservation and Design Review Board composition. The implementation process will include community meetings, recruitment for new Design Review Board members, and robust training for all Planning staff and Design Review Board members.
