Skyway Resource Center
community resource center within the neighborhood

Schemata Workshop has been working with the Skyway community in Seattle on the planning for a community center through studies and community engagement events. In 2021, the local US Bank in the neighborhood was closing and offered to donate their building to the community as a resource center. This resource center will be able to meet several of the programmatic goals of the community center feasibility study, such as having training/teaching space, a place for healthcare - including mental health, opportunities for community grassroots organizations, and community meeting space. Based on this, the County agreed that a portion of the funding dedicated to a community center should be applied to this project. We worked for over a year in close partnership on a community design process to develop a plan to convert this former bank. This location is centrally located in the community and across the street from the Skyway Library.
